Q:What is PET?
A:Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is a clear polymer which is used to manufacture very strong, lightweight bottles, sheet (for thermoformed clamshells), and fiber.  One great thing about PET is that it is 100% recyclable and can be re-used many times.  Additionally, due to its’ unique physical properties, it is used for very light weight bottles which minimizes the use of natural resources.  Using recycled PET offers our customers a truly sustainable option which satisfies regulatory mandates for both FDA and non-FDA applicantions.  Recycled PET is the preferred choice for environmentally sustainable packaging!

Q:  What are some other fun facts about PET?

  • It takes about 19 recycled bottles to make one XL T-shirt or one square foot of carpet.
  • The US EPA states that recycling just one pound of PET saves @ 12,000 BTU’s.
  • It takes about 90 recyclled PET bottles to make enough fiberfill for a sleeping bag.
  • The PET bottle was first patented by Nathaniel Wyeth (brother of famous American artist, Andrew Wyeth) in 1973.
  • The first PET bottle was “recycled” in 1977.  Today, billions of PET bottles are recycled worldwide every week!
